ABBA share new images of their ‘Voyage’ digital avatars

On the third anniversary of ABBA Voyage, the groundbreaking virtual concert experience, fans around the world were treated to a brand-new video celebrating the success and legacy of the show. Released earlier today, the video features a mix of behind-the-scenes footage, fan reactions, and never-before-seen moments from the production — all set to a remix of the beloved ABBA hit “Dancing Queen.”

Since its premiere in May 2022 at the custom-built ABBA Arena in London, ABBA Voyage has stunned audiences with its revolutionary use of technology, combining motion-capture performances with digital avatars — or “ABBAtars” — to bring the legendary Swedish group back to the stage in a way the world has never seen before. The show features virtual versions of Björn, Benny, Agnetha, and Anni-Frid as they appeared in their 1970s prime, performing a dazzling setlist of classic hits with a live backing band.

The newly released video opens with dramatic visuals of the ABBA Arena, packed with excited fans, many dressed in glittering outfits reminiscent of the band’s golden era. Snippets of emotional audience reactions — laughter, tears, dancing — highlight just how deeply ABBA Voyage has connected with both longtime fans and new generations. “It feels like they’re really there,” one fan says tearfully in the clip. “It’s not just a concert. It’s a time machine.”

The three-minute anniversary video also includes rare behind-the-scenes footage from the motion-capture sessions, showing the real ABBA members in black suits covered with tracking dots, moving and dancing decades after their last full-scale tour. Björn Ulvaeus can be seen laughing with technicians, while Agnetha Fältskog practices her signature stage gestures. “We wanted to do something no one else had ever done,” Björn says in a voiceover. “And I think we did.”

To mark the anniversary, producers also hinted at future surprises. The end of the video teases possible updates to the show’s setlist, and even new music being considered for digital performance. Fans are already speculating that rare B-sides or solo tracks could make their way into future versions of the show.

Over the past three years, ABBA Voyage has not only received critical acclaim but has also pushed the boundaries of what a live music experience can be. With sold-out performances and a growing international audience, the show is more than just a tribute — it’s a technological and emotional celebration of ABBA’s lasting impact on music and culture.

As ABBA Voyage enters its fourth year, this new video serves as a reminder that while the band may no longer tour in person, their music — and now their digital selves — continue to evolve, inspire, and bring joy to millions.

The full video is now available on ABBA’s official YouTube channel and social media platforms, and it’s already gaining millions of views. One thing is certain: ABBA’s voyage is far from over.
