ABBA Reflects on Their Journey: 10th Anniversary Interview of the Reunion That Reignited the Magic

It’s been a decade since ABBA stunned the world by reuniting after nearly 40 years apart. In a rare and emotional interview marking the 10th anniversary of their 2015 reunion announcement, the legendary Swedish pop group—Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad—opened up about the past, the present, and the legacy they never expected would still be going strong.

Seated together in a cozy Stockholm studio, the chemistry between the four was unmistakable. While time has added a few wrinkles and slowed their pace, the spark that made ABBA an international sensation remains intact. For the first time in years, all four members shared personal reflections on their reunion, the “Voyage” project, and the impact of their music on generations of fans.

“We didn’t plan to come back—not really,” Björn admitted. “It began with just the idea of doing a couple of songs for ourselves. But then it grew. The technology, the energy… we realized we still had something to say, musically and emotionally.”

Their album Voyage, released in 2021, became a global phenomenon, topping charts and earning praise for its rich orchestration and nostalgic yet mature tone. It was accompanied by the groundbreaking “ABBA Voyage” concert experience in London, where digital avatars (or ABBAtars) of the group performed alongside a live band. The show became a runaway hit, redefining the live music experience.

“It was surreal,” Frida said with a soft laugh. “Seeing our younger selves up there—it was like time folded in on itself. And the fans… they cried, they danced, they remembered. We felt it all.”

When asked about the pressure of living up to their legendary status, Benny answered with typical humility: “We never tried to chase our old success. We just made music we believed in. We never thought we’d be relevant again. But somehow, the songs found their way back to people’s hearts.”

The interview also touched on the band’s legacy beyond the music—how Mamma Mia! and the Broadway musical and films introduced ABBA to new generations. Agnetha, often the most private of the group, shared a heartfelt moment: “When I see young children singing ‘Dancing Queen,’ I think, ‘How is this possible after all these years?’ But maybe that’s the magic of music. It doesn’t age the way we do.”

Despite repeated questions over the years, all four members remain consistent: there are no plans for a traditional tour. But they are content. “We’ve given the world our voices, our melodies, our emotions,” Björn said. “And that’s more than enough.”

As the interview came to a close, the group raised a toast—not to fame or fortune, but to friendship, resilience, and the power of song. Ten years after they returned to the spotlight, ABBA stands not only as a music icon but as proof that timeless talent and heartfelt artistry never fade.
