ABBA Returns With New Album and Music After Four Decades

Published: August 3, 2025

Legendary Swedish pop group ABBA has made a triumphant return to the music world with the release of their first new album in over 40 years. The iconic quartet—Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad—have surprised fans across generations by unveiling fresh material, reigniting the magic that made them global superstars in the 1970s and early 1980s.

The new album, titled Voyage, includes 10 brand-new tracks that blend ABBA’s signature harmonies with modern production. Fans were treated to the first two singles, “I Still Have Faith in You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down,” which premiered during a special global livestream event. The emotional ballads showcase the group’s enduring vocal chemistry and songwriting prowess.

Speaking during the virtual event, the band explained that the project started as “just two songs” recorded for fun, but quickly grew into a full studio album. “It was as if time had stood still,” said Benny Andersson. “We were back in the studio, and it felt like the old days—only better in some ways.”

ABBA initially rose to fame after winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with their smash hit “Waterloo.” Over the following decade, they released a string of chart-topping singles like “Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia,” and “The Winner Takes It All,” becoming one of the best-selling music acts in history. Despite disbanding in 1982, their popularity endured, thanks in part to successful stage musicals and film adaptations.

In addition to the new album, ABBA has announced an innovative virtual concert experience—ABBA Voyage—which will feature digital avatars of the group performing their hits alongside a live band. Created using advanced motion capture and CGI technology, the “ABBAtars” were designed to represent the group as they appeared in their prime. The show is set to debut in London, where a custom-built arena will host the performances.

Björn Ulvaeus described the show as “a time machine” for fans who never got to see ABBA live. “We wanted to do something no one has ever done before,” he said. “It’s not nostalgia—it’s a new kind of concert.”

The announcement has sparked a wave of excitement across social media, with longtime fans and younger listeners alike expressing their joy. Music critics have praised the new songs for staying true to ABBA’s melodic roots while adding emotional depth and maturity.

While the group has made it clear that this is likely their final musical project together, they say they’re proud to close the chapter on their own terms. “We may be older,” said Anni-Frid Lyngstad, “but the music still connects—and that’s what matters most.”

With Voyage, ABBA proves that great music is timeless—and their legacy continues to shine brightly.
