Ludvig Andersson Lifts the Curtain on ABBA Voyage: A Family Legacy Reimagined
In a rare and candid interview on This Morning, Ludvig Andersson — the son of legendary ABBA member Benny Andersson — offered fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative heartbeat of the groundbreaking ABBA Voyage show. As one of the key producers of the immersive digital concert experience, Ludvig spoke with passion about blending legacy, technology, and emotion to reintroduce ABBA to a new generation.
With sparkling eyes and humble charm, Ludvig began by expressing the weight of carrying the ABBA name. “There’s a responsibility, of course,” he said. “But it’s also a privilege to work so closely with something that has shaped so many lives — including my own.”
The ABBA Voyage project, which brings digital avatars — or “ABBAtars” — of the band members to life onstage, has captivated audiences since its debut. Using state-of-the-art motion capture technology and an army of visual effects artists, the show presents the iconic Swedish foursome as they appeared in their prime. “We didn’t want it to feel like a gimmick,” Ludvig explained. “It had to feel like ABBA. It had to carry that emotional magic.”
According to Ludvig, one of the biggest challenges was making the digital performances feel authentic. “You’re dealing with memory and nostalgia,” he said. “People have a deep emotional connection to ABBA’s music — their wedding songs, the soundtrack to their childhood, their moments of joy and heartbreak. We had to honor that.”
When asked about working with his father, Ludvig smiled. “Benny still has this spark — a perfectionist streak, but in the best way. He was deeply involved in every musical decision, every arrangement, every detail.” He went on to describe moments in the studio where Benny would replay a melody over and over until it captured just the right mood. “He always says, ‘The song has to sing itself.’”
One of the most emotional parts of the Voyage show, Ludvig revealed, was seeing the reactions of the original band members — Benny, Björn, Agnetha, and Anni-Frid. “When they saw the final result, they were moved. I think it was a little surreal for them, seeing their younger selves come to life onstage again.”
Despite his pivotal role, Ludvig remains grounded. “This isn’t about me,” he said. “It’s about bringing ABBA’s music to life in a way that feels both timeless and new. We wanted to create something where the audience — no matter their age — feels like they’ve witnessed something unforgettable.”
With tickets selling out months in advance and fans traveling from across the globe to attend, ABBA Voyage has already made history. Yet for Ludvig, the success is measured not just in numbers, but in faces. “When you look out at the audience and see tears, laughter, dancing — that’s when you know it worked. That’s when you know ABBA still has something to say.”
