EFEMERIDE MUSICAL - Benny Andersson (Abba)

Benny Andersson’s Son Lifts the Curtain on ABBA Voyage: Behind-the-Scenes Secrets Revealed

The ABBA Voyage show has dazzled fans across the globe with its groundbreaking use of digital avatars, stunning visuals, and timeless music. But while the spotlight has been on the iconic foursome—Agnetha, Björn, Benny, and Anni-Frid—a surprising voice is now offering fans an exclusive look behind the scenes: Ludvig Andersson, son of ABBA’s Benny Andersson.

Appearing on a recent episode of This Morning, Ludvig opened up about his crucial role as a producer of the ABBA Voyage experience and shared never-before-heard stories about how this high-tech show came to life.

“It was more than just a concert,” Ludvig explained. “We wanted to create something no one had ever seen before — not a tribute act, not a hologram show, but something truly immersive that captured the spirit of ABBA as they are remembered and loved.”

Ludvig, who has long worked in film and music production, described how his deep connection to the music — having grown up surrounded by it — helped guide the project’s emotional core. “I knew how these songs made people feel,” he said. “So I asked myself: how do we preserve that magic in a new format?”

And that format is nothing short of revolutionary. The ABBA Voyage show features “ABBAtars” — digital versions of the band members as they appeared in their prime — performing alongside a live band in a custom-built London arena. The technology, created by Industrial Light & Magic (founded by George Lucas), involved over five weeks of motion capture with the real ABBA members and years of visual effects work to bring their digital selves to life.

“Dad [Benny] was fully involved,” Ludvig shared with a smile. “He was in the suit, doing the movements, the piano playing — everything. They all were. And that’s what gives the show its authenticity.”

But it wasn’t all high-tech magic and smooth sailing. Ludvig admitted there were moments of doubt. “We were creating something that had never been done before. There were no templates, no guidelines. At times it felt like a crazy dream.” He paused, then added, “But ABBA’s music has always had the power to bring people together. That gave us the confidence to keep going.”

Now, with sold-out shows and rave reviews, it’s clear the gamble paid off. Fans from multiple generations have been moved to tears — not just by the music, but by the surreal beauty of seeing ABBA “live” again in such a vivid and respectful way.

When asked if the group might ever tour in person again, Ludvig gently shook his head. “This is ABBA’s gift to the world — one last celebration of their legacy, done their way. And I think they’re proud of it.”

One thing’s for certain: with a son like Ludvig carrying the creative torch, ABBA’s story is far from over.
