Phil Collins: A Glimpse into His Health and Musical Journey

Phil Collins, the legendary English musician renowned for his work with Genesis and his solo career, has been a prominent figure in the music industry for decades. However, recent updates shed light on his current health and future in music.

At 74, Collins has faced significant health challenges that have impacted his ability to perform. In a candid interview with MOJO magazine, he revealed, “I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens. But I’m not hungry for it anymore. The thing is, I’ve been sick. I mean, very sick.” These health issues have led to his retirement from drumming in 2022, a decision influenced by complications from a 2007 spinal injury and subsequent surgeries. During Genesis’s final tour, Collins performed seated, with his son Nic taking over the drumming duties

Despite these challenges, Collins’s influence on the music world remains profound. His 1981 debut solo album, Face Value, and hits like “In the Air Tonight” and “Against All Odds” have left an indelible mark on the industry. In 2010, he released Going Back, an album of Motown covers, which was his last studio project.

Recently, there have been signs of a potential return to music. In 2024, Collins’s close friend and collaborator, Simon Napier-Bell, shared that they filmed together for a documentary about London’s Marquee Club. Napier-Bell mentioned that Collins had revamped his studio and was in high spirits, suggesting that new music might be on the horizon

While Collins has expressed a loss of motivation to create new music due to his health, his legacy continues to inspire. Fans worldwide remain hopeful for any future projects and cherish the timeless music he has already gifted to the world.
